How to read your communications bill?
Please click on this link for a detailed explanation of your communications bill?

What forms of payment does CRMU accept?

CRMU accepts cash, checks (no two-party checks), money orders and credit cards (Mastercard & Visa only). You may pay your bill online via debit or credit card at the following website: www.officialpayments.com

Can I have my communications bill automatically debited from my bank account?
With our Auto-Pay Program, your communications payments are automatically deducted directly from your checking or savings account. You will still receive your monthly statement so you know the date and amount being deducted from your bank account. You can sign up for this program by completing and submitting the "Auto-Pay Program Form." You may also stop by our office to fill out the form or call 999-2225 to request one by mail. We also require a VOIDED check (not a deposit slip) with the correct bank account and routing information. Your payment will be deducted from your account on the first of the month (one day after the due date stated on the bill).

When I receive my bill...how long do I have to pay it?
You will receive your bill around the 10th of each month. All bills are due on the last day of the month.

Do you offer a budget payment plan?
CRMU does NOT offer a budget payment plan for communications.

Do I have to pay a deposit for my communications services?
Yes - CRMU requires a $50 deposit before establishing any communication service.

Do I still have to pay for internet service if my computer, modem or settings are not working?
Yes. Think of our internet service like any other service, such as telephone or cable television. If you use it or not, it is still there and you pay for it unless you want it disconnected. Likewise, with your Internet account, you may not be actively dialing into or accessing it, but it is costing us server resources and disk space, not to mention still collecting your email messages.

It is the customer's responsibility to seek the appropriate help if their computer and/or hardware is not working. It is the user's responsibility to report any connection problems in a timely order since we do not know if you are having problems or not. There are no grace periods or fee reductions during the time you are unable to access CRMU internet due to a hardware or software problem on your end.

Cable Television

What is the Digital Transition?
The digital transition only applies/affects local broadcast stations. In our area, these stations include WOI-ABC (5), KCCI-CBS (8), KDIN-IPTV (11), WHO-NBC (13), KDSM-FOX (17) and KPCW-CW (23). Congress has mandated that these stations convert their signals from analog to digital by February 17, 2009. However, Congress is currently discussing delaying this transistion date until June 12, 2009.

Why is the digital transition being done?
This is being done to free up frequencies for public safety communications such as police, fire, and emergency rescue as well as to make spectrum available for advanced wireless communications services.

If I subscribe to CRMU cable television....do I need to do anything for the digital transition?
No. CRMU will convert the local broadcast stations for you so that all of your existing televisions will continue to work as they do today.

Is a High Definition TV and a Digital TV the same?

No, there are many different quality levels of DTV. The most common are:

1. Standard Definition TV (SDTV): SDTV is the basic level of quality display resolution for both ananlog and digital. Transmission of SDTV may be in either the traditional (4:3) aspect ratio or the widescreen (16:9) format.

2. Enhanced Definition TV (EDTV): EDTV is the next step up from SDTV. EDTV comes in 480p widescreen (16:9) or traditional (4:3) format and provides better picture quality than SDTV due to the progressive scanning, but it is not as good as HDTV.

3. High Definition TV (HDTV): HDTV is in widescreen format (16:9) and includes 720p and 1080i resolutions which provide the highest resolution and picture quality of all digital broadcast formats. (Note: HDTV and Digital TV are not the same - HDTV is one format of Digital TV.)

Internet and Email

What are the system requirements for CRMU internet services?
PCs running on Windows 2000/XP/Vista are preferred. Windows 3.11 or Windows 95 are not supported. A Pentium 2 processor with at least 128 MB of RAM, CD-ROM, 50MB available hard disk space, a network card and/or 56k modem (14.4k modems are not supported.)

Macintosh must be running system 10 or OsX with 128 MB of RAM, CD-ROM, 50MB available hard disk space, a network card and/or 56k modem (14.4k modems are not supported.)

Can I have CRMU internet on two computers?
Yes. However if you are using a dial-up connection, these systems cannot be logged in at the same time. You would have to purchase an additional dial-up account at the regular monthly rates to allow two systems simulteneous connections. With high-speed internet you can have multiple systems.

What is my email address?
Your email address is usually your username, the @ symbol, then crmu.net. For instance your email address would be your:
username@crmu.net; An example of this would be info@crmu.net

Why can't people reply to the Email I send them?
If people you send messages to can't reply to you, your reply-to address in your Email software may be wrong. If the address is incomplete or otherwise incorrect, people won't be able to return messages to you by using the Reply command in their email program.

Why was the Email message I sent returned?
Electronic mail typically bounces or returns for one of two reasons:

1. Host Unknown - The site you're mailing to may not exist. The site (the part of the email address after the @ sign) must be a valid internet site, and must be spelled correctly. If the host you specified in the email address can't be found, your message has no destination and must be bounced back to you. When this happens, double-check the destination email address and try to resend your message to the right place.

2. User Unknown - The other likely reason your email may bounce is this: although the destination site (the part after the @ sign) is valid, there is no username that answers to the name you specified. When this happens, double-check the username your intended recipient and resend your message. Usernames must be spelled correctly and are usually case-sensative (USERNAME@someplace.com is not always the same as username@someplace.com).

Can my Email password be different from my login password?
No. Your email password and login password MUST be the same for systems and accounting reasons.

Does CRMU offer web hosting?
No. You need to contact a web hosting company for these services.

Can I catch a virus by looking at a web page?
Yes. With the new Vote virus and NMIA, you can catch viruses by looking at web pages - they try to download a file on to the machine, thus infecting you. CRMU stresses the use of current and updated anti virus software. Keeping your browser updated with the most current version will assist in preventing these types of infections.

How can I avoid being infected by a virus through email?
The only way to be infected by a virus set by e-mail is to open an attachment, usually seen as a paper clip within the message - some viruses will attempt to run a program once the paper clip has been clicked on and the file underneath selected. Most viruses come in .exe format, others will be seen as a visual basic script or .vbs extension. Paying attention to the files attached to emails, even from people you know, will prevent your system from being infected. CRMU stresses the use of current and updated anti-virus software.

Can I hook-up my WebTV to your service?
WebTV connections are supported by CRMU internet. We have the ability to connect you with WebTV via our modems; however, we do not provide the technical support for the WebTV units in any aspect, other than the connection. You can get more information at 1-800-GO-WebTV or their website at http://www.webtv.net/.
